“Ever since I was a child in Montreal, Quebec, I have enjoyed expressing myself with many mediums such as pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, oil, water colour, and I am currently hooked on acrylics. As I go through different experiences in my life, I have realized that creating art is very necessary for my personal growth and dealing with various emotions.
For the most part I am self taught, with the exception of having taken advantage of some excellent online instructors such as Charla Maarschalk and Dianna Shynn.
This year one of my paintings was chosen to represent an artist’s interpretation for the ARDEI initiative (Anti Racism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) and is now displayed in a federal government building headquarters in Ottawa as an elevator wrap.
I also recently won a Special Merit Award from LightSpaceTimeArt in an online competition for my figurative painting “Good Karma.” This painting is of an interesting young man on Bank Street in Ottawa. The original painting cam currently be seen at the gallery.
I love to bring joy and positive energy into the lives of art lovers who resonate with my personal creative style through my vibrant paintings of life in nature, beautiful animals and interesting people.” Lynn Caldwell
I'm self-taught artist, best known for my vibrant landscape and wilderness paintings that capture the essence of the Canadian Landscape. I've been working as a professional visual artist since 2005 and also am a second generation landscape artist, my full bio can be found on my website.
I have original artwork in collections with the Canadian War Museum, City of Ottawa Fine Arts collection, and numerous corporate and private collections.
My original artwork, often comprises series or projects of landscapes and wilderness scenes from areas I have lived or visited. My work has been showcased at various shows and events in Ottawa and Toronto, including exhibits at the Ottawa International Airport and The Museum of Nature.
My artistic vision, is deeply ingrained in the Canadian Landscape and wilderness, blending elements of realism and impressionism. As the owner of Wind Rock Ridge Art Gallery my own artwork maintains a constant presence in the gallery, providing a consistent thread of my vision amidst the rotating artists exhibits. You’ll find me in my art studio at Wind Rock Ridge Art Gallery, creating new works of art.
“Art is the signature of man” GK Chesterton, The Everlasting Man, 1925 Most of my paintings are not signed and people often ask me why I don’t sign them. For me, art is a way of reflecting how our hearts feel when we witness beauty and wanting to share that beauty with others. In my opinion there is nothing more beautiful than the pristine landscapes we find everywhere in Canada.
The only place I have ever been that is almost as beautiful as Canada is Alaska. I started painting on my way to Alaska to capture the incredible scenes I was seeing all around me on the ferry trip to Juneau, Alaska.
I developed my artistic skills further by practicing and by watching great artists, like Shelley Leach, paint. I have since ventured into the world of portrait painting.
( Art by Roanne) The collages that I create are all about memory, nostalgia, and reflection. They are reminders of everyday moments that we tend to take for granted.
I am drawn to things that have been discarded or that are not typically considered beautiful ~ reclaimed wood, rusty objects, recycled papers...I also love the contrast between ephemera, such as old postcards or vintage sheet music, and more delicate Japanese papers. Plus you’ll find textiles, such as thread or fabric, as well as watercolour and acrylic paints, embedded in my collages. It’s all about playing with texture and layers!
I also have experience with fibre arts and encaustic painting, but I seem to have landed on mixed media collage ~ at least for now. My art has found new homes with collectors across Canada and in the U.S. Besides creating my own things, I teach workshops in mixed media collage and art journaling.

"Ever since I can remember, I always loved art, the beauty of nature and the aesthetics of buildings.
My first real introduction to painting was as a schoolboy in Toronto and going on a school trip to the McMichael Gallery. I was mesmerized by the paintings and was immediately struck by their beauty but also the style of these works. I said to myself I want to do this someday.
Throughout elementary and high school I did some art camps and gained an interest in architecture. My summary project in my senior year was a design of a motel of which we built a scale model with working lights etc and we won an award of merit from the City of Scarborough with the model being displayed in city hall for several months.
Life brought me to University where I spent time doing some photography courses as an extra curricular endeavour and was very fun. Capturing the colours of the season always affected me viscerally especially in fall with vibrant warm colours being a feast for the eyes and fuel for the soul.
The working world of finance and marriages and children took most of my time for the next couple of decades where I wanted to do more in art but, just did not ultimately have the time, to pursue it.
In my last few years of work I had the opportunity to start to spend some more time in the art space and since retiring last year I can now spend much more time at this lifelong endeavour.
I have had the opportunity to paint with Gordon Harrison, Noemie Cote and some great on line coursework from Tim Packer, and some great mentorship from Susan Reiter. All these artists as well as the obvious influence of the group of seven, and , have really influenced my style and what I love to paint. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy creating them.
